PS I will be sending you along with your analysis a link to a very useful tool I recently developed for discovering career opportunities! Meanwhile, here is a little information on Professional Profiles! Enjoy!
A Professional Resume Profile is a short, concise introductory section at the top of your resume that highlights your relevant qualifications and skills.
Here's how to use a Professional Profile: First, your resume's professional profile should be dynamic, meaning you can easily adjust it for each employer in order to concisely feature your skills and professional experience in a way that lights up ATS and gets the employer's attention. Your Professional Profile (elevator pitch) should match their wish list!
Recruiters usually start with a stack of resumes and spend only an average of 6 seconds on each one - in order to quickly "cull the herd." However, they always gravitate back to any top-of-page intro, and this presents an opportunity for you to showcase a Professional Profile and effectively demonstrate how you can contribute to the position you're applying for.
By creating an attention-grabbing and impactful profile, you can instantly capture the recruiter's attention and increase your chances of moving forward in the hiring process.
* Studies have shown that the average recruiter scans a resume for six seconds before deciding if the applicant is a good candidate for the role. In other words, to pass the resume test, your resume only has six seconds to make the right impression with a prospective employer.
How a typical recruiter reads your resume in 6 seconds:
HEADLINE - who are you?
TOP-HALF - does your recent background match the employer's requirements? DOWN LEFT SIDE - who have you worked for? Glance at p2 and then back to p1, TOP-HALF - reads the profile. (Third pages are typically ignored and some recruiters are annoyed by a third page feeling the applicant is not respecting their time.)
A scientific technique was used called "eye tracking" on 30 professional recruiters and examined their eye movements during a 10-week period to "record and analyze where and how long someone focuses when digesting a piece of information or completing a task.
A headline consisting of a congruent Job Title and 3 Traits when used within your Professional Profile are non-historical dynamic components of your resume that can be adjusted to target a specific job opportunity. This is NOT the same as the job title used in your job history. Your Professional Profile Job Title should be the same title used in the employer's job description. Identify the three most important traits listed in the job posting, then display your own three traits that best match them. These statements are forward-looking, not historical. We are essentially creating a programmable resume!Example:
Your resume’s most valuable real estate is the top half of page one. Don’t waste it. You only have 6 seconds - so - focus the reader on your Professional Profile, title, and traits!
When I write a resume, I always start by running the employer's job description thru a word cloud. This method provides insight as to which items in the employer's wish list of ideal traits and skills are most important.
I then combine this information with an ATS scan between the existing resume and the job description in order to identify critical keywords. Using those results I then craft a profile that contains keywords on the ATS radar while at the same time crafting statements for the human reader that I know reflect specific traits, skills, experience, and accomplishments the employer is seeking.
An ATS-optimized Professional Profile is only one of several powerful strategies in my playbook, aimed at placing your new resume into the "interview this person stack."
