Why do you want to upload at least one job under Easy Apply?

Because LinkedIn ATS tracks the jobs you are applying for and how well keywords from your resume match the job requirements. Then ATS will start gradually sending you leads on similar jobs.

Why should you avoid the "Open for Work" icon and instead set up the feature that signals recruiters confidentially?

Because most recruiters do not want to feel like their candidate is desperate. It may sound petty, but it's true! They would rather hire you away from another employer or at the very least, take someone who is not "begging" for a job! Some recruiters will tell you conventional wisdom is that the unemployed may not be as up to date or current with their skillsets. Regardless of the reason, to win the game, play the game!
