About Glenn? My Personal Message!

Well yes, I’ve already been warned how posting a picture of myself with an Iron City may not be the smartest thing! I only wanted to show I am a “relatively” normal Pittsburgh’er!

I write ATS-optimized resumes using best practices and the latest technology for Executives, Professionals, and C-Suite clients, mostly in Technology, Energy, Finance, HR, and the Healthcare Industry. So if you're an Executive Manager, C-Suite candidate, Finance, HR, or Healthcare Professional, Engineer, or Scientist working in Technology, I'm your guy!

After the "Great Resignation" has come the "Great Selective Hiring" and there is more competition than ever for the dream jobs! (You know, the ones that change your life forever.)

Most recently I have founded Blue Ridge Technology Recruiters - we are currently building a bench of software engineers in the autonomous vehicle space, especially with regard to ADAS, LiDAR, Optical, and 4D MMW Imaging Radar systems, although there is much activity across the entire technology spectrum.

The dynamic of the American workforce is changing, and it would be a mistake to turn a blind eye to this reality. Although Blue Ridge is pretty much a "niche recruiter" the same design principles (and "tricks") for best practice resumes are a constant over the entire range, from Medical to HR, to Finance, to Technology. I have consistently managed to design resumes that land on the top of the interview pile, and my dear visitor, I look forward to doing the same for you!

I bring the perspective of a seasoned recruiter with lots of entrepreneurial experience. You can check out my background here:

What is a Smart Resume?

Job history should be listed in reverse chronological order with your employer at the top left. Avoid a list of duties or bullet points.

Use action verbs to highlight your accomplishments relating to the job being applied for. Skills should be listed on the last page, as you are expected to already have the required skills for the job being applied for.

Recruiters tend to view lists of skills as your "opinion of yourself" and therefore biased and usually boring. Do not make statements as to your objective or what you are seeking. Share those thoughts with your friends and family, but your potential employer is more interested in what you can do for them, and not in stepping up to help YOU with YOUR objectives.

Use CAUSE and EFFECT when describing your jobs, with EFFECT listed first, then CAUSE, for example:

Effect: Increased unit productivity by 37%

Cause: while working as unit manager

Remember, if you just talk about your job duties, you are only listing what your employer required. A new employer would much rather learn about what results they can expect from you, not the just duties and responsibilities you were given by an earlier employer. Tell them how you performed!

Job Entries

Core Competencies Index

What is a Core Competencies Index on a resume? Core competencies, also known as your "core qualifications" is a list of your qualifications for a job. A core competencies section includes your skills, certifications, knowledge of different software products, and personality traits that make you a desirable candidate. When targeting a specific job opportunity, the index entries can be adjusted to match the employer's nomenclature in order to better sync with ATS.
For example, ATS is an exact match engine, and if ATS is seeking "mechanical design engineer" and your index entry has "mechanical engineer" you will not score as high for this term as another candidate who has matched the exact term. You can adjust your Core Competencies Index to exactly match an employer's posted requirements. This is a very powerful strategy that is highly effective in passing ATS screening gates. * In practice I place the index at the bottom of the last page.

Job Title and Traits when used within your Professional Profile are non-historical dynamic components of your resume that can be adjusted to target a specific job opportunity. This is NOT the same as the job title used in your job history. Your Professional Profile Job Title should be the same title used in the employer's job description. (If you have worked a similar position) List as your Three Traits, your traits that best match the three most important traits as described in the job posting. These statements are forward looking, not historical.
